Introducing the Texas Speed Gen 5 Timing Cover to delete the VVT system in serious LT performance builds. This cover is required to properly delete VVT along with the VVT Timing Gear Phaser and replaces it with a TSP 4x reluctor wheel 3- Bolt billet upper timing gear.
Variable Valve Timing (VVT) is a great asset for non-performance and OEM camshafts to extend the torque curve as you can have the camshaft advanced for low-end grunt and then programmed retarded past the torque peak to extend the average power curve. When you start upgrading your vehicle beyond the OEM style camshafts, the VVT becomes less effective, unreliable, and is simply along for the ride.
The larger the duration of the camshaft, the less and less window of VVT adjustment is available. For boost applications, the VVT system is a nuisance as the engine will force the VVT phaser camshaft retarded, which drastically effects engine performance. In the past, companies including TSP would sell a VVT lockout kit, which mechanically blocks the phaser oil vanes from physically moving. This previous technique would reuse the OEM phaser, timing cover and single VVT camshaft bolt.
The second big advantageous aspect of this VVT delete is the introduction of a Texas Speed 3-Bolt Hybrid LT Camshaft designed to complement the TSP VVTDeleteCover. By using a 3-bolt design, gone are the days where customers misalign their VVT camshaft indexing pin or inadvertently shearing the pin and causing catastrophic engine damage due to the camshaft timing being wrong. The 3-Bolt design eliminates installation error as much as possible and provides the ability to use aftermarket fasteners. The 3-Bolt Camshaft comes standard with a 32% fuel lobe and the ability to use existing TSP camshaft designs, with the ability to grind custom non-VVT camshaft specifications.
*Note: If you have an existing aftermarket VVT Single-Bolt camshaft, you can not reuse it with the TSP VVT-Delete Cover or standard single-bolt Non-VVT gear as it will be retarded 7.5 degrees without correcting the camshaft timing. The TSP Delete Cover, Upper 3-bolt Billet Timing Gear, and TSP 3-bolt Camshaft is a matched system of parts. |
