The C7 harness mount bar has been tested and certified using all possible mounting points by an independent lab to handle the types of forces required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin. DOT and SAE J385 Rev. MAR 95, Motor Vehicle Seat Belt Anchorages-Performance Requirements.
The C7 harness mount bar properly locates and supports racing shoulder harnesses relative to the driver. In the case of an accident, it helps protect the driver's shoulders and spine. The harness guides also prevent excessive shifting and fatigue of the driver during the high G loads of cornering and braking. Our bars are easy to install and remove, use only existing holes and mounting points.
Note: Because of mounting locations in the C7, the b-pillar plastic sail panel covers will require slot on either side to be cut. Sail panels replacements can be ordered from your GM Dealer, part 23176134 for driver side, and part 23176135 for passenger side if you do not want to cut the original panels. Strength requirements for harness mounts are considerably greater than those for harness guide bars since they must support the entire load applied to the belts.

The C7 harness bar presented a unique challenge. The harness holes in the Chevrolet "competition" seats are unusually low-- too low for drivers of most heights to safely use. For example, the harness holes on the Chevy competition seats are 4" closer to the seat bottom than they are with this Recaro seat (21" vs 25"):

That said, we didn't want to release a bar that didn't work with the factory competition seats, for those who can safely use them. Our solution was to create a harness bar with 3 possible harness mount location, all 3 of which have been tested and certified by an independent lab to handle the types of forces required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin. DOT and SAE J385 Rev. MAR 95, Motor Vehicle Seat Belt Anchorages-Performance Requirements. In so doing, we created a harness bar that is safe to use with the stock seats, safe to use with aftermarket seats, and still allows you to keep (and use) the factory 3 point seat belt, if you so desire.
The mounts on our C7 harness bar transmit the load from the belts directly into the factory roll hoop. The factory seat belt bolts are still used, but their primary function is locating the bar and preventing rotation. This provides a much stronger and more stable bar than using the seat belt bolts alone. |
